Our next Chic in the City peice comes from a young lady who is not a stranger to the blogging scene. She currently writes on another fashion-related blog called Seeing Pink Elephants (www.seeingpinkelephants.com ) and I am excited that she has provided us with our Chic in the City topic of today. I am speaking of no other than Ms. Anastasia Nicole!

To green or not to green that is the question

With all the hoopla these days surrounding so called eco-friendly brands it hard for a fashionista to decide if she’s doing the right thing. Honestly, a whole lot of brands have been on the organic bandwagon for awhile, such as CFDA winner Rogan Gregory who is Target’s current GO International designer, but since being green has become as trendy as adopting African babies I have seen loads of “green” slogan tees made from cotton poly blends, FYI polyester is not environmentally friendly trust me always check your labels. That said here are two ways to ensure that you are indeed doing your part to protect the environment and maybe save some cash. First you could get your girlfriends together for a swap night; you know where you each bring a few pieces that you no longer wear that you can swap. This not only saves money and waste created by tossing those old skinnies in the trash, but also gives you an excuse to get the girl together and have drinks, not that I ever need an excuse to do that. Whatever clothes are left you then donate to Goodwill or Salvation Army or you could sell them on eBay. Speaking of eBay, my second tip is to by vintage threads. Some people only like brand spanking new but since most new looks are remixes of old ones, why not buy the originals. Also if you never had it before it’s new to you, right? I prefer to scout online at AdoreVintage.com or Sick Thrift’s eBay shop because I’m lazy and like shopping from home. Remember that a size 28 in 1985 is not the same as one now and since these pieces are preloved they may need some extra TLC. Here are a few of my picks from Adore Vintage and Sick Thrift. Don’t avoid those Habituals made of organic cotton all together if they are well within your budget, however know that all that’s green isn’t Mama Earth friendly. Happy shopping!
