It’s hot in New Orleans, but we still have to get up, take off the shorts, and go to work. Wouldn’t it be great if we had a happy medium, where you are happy and comfortable and your employer think you are the greatest professional employee ever? Depending on your work, you can make this happen. There are some things you can do when getting dressed for work.

before1.jpg

1. Trade in your pants for a nice skirt suit or basic light color skirt (grey) with separate shirts (preferably a breezy button down shirt or wrap style shirt)

Places to Go (NY&CO, Old Navy, Thick Ladies: Ashley Steward and possibly Lane Bryant, Nice but cheap alternative: JcPenny –I live and die by a good JCPENNY SALE)

2. You want to wear nice light colorful shades to attract less heat to you. If you must wear a dark suit, try a lighter undershirt or tank top.

3. Layer light fabrics: silk, cotton, linen layers. (this is to help you get ready for cold offices and the hot outdoors)

4. Always have a cover up ready, Lightweight Neutral Blazer.

5. Do NOT flash flesh. ( No short shorts, mini-skirts, tank tops, love cut-sheer blouses; may draw too much attention to you negatively)

Italian Vogue has started the Revolution. This week Vogue will cover African American models (how cool is that). The all black feature will include Iman, Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, Kehede, Ms. Wek, Pat Cleveland and more.

Editor-in-chief, Franca Sozzani and photographer Steven Meisel, whom show a full 100 pages. Sozzani says, she was inspired by Barack Obama’s campaign and the lack of diversity in the runways. Meisel says,” I thought, it’s ridiculous, this discrimination. It’s so crazy to live in such a narrow, narrow place. Age, weight, sexuality, race — every kind of prejudice.” It is definitely time for a new start for the inclusion of African American Models around the world. Wouldn’t it be great if now more New Orleans models and designers were recognized. A change is coming.

New Orleans Sparkles!

New Orleans is officially the nation’s most “Sparkling City.” What does this mean? Well, read on for selections from the press release;

White Plains, NY, June 23, 2008 — [yellow tail] wines announced today that Americans deem New Orleans to be “America’s Most Sparkling City.” After a national survey narrowed the list of nominees to 10 locations, Americans were asked to vote online for the most animated, brilliant, lively and vivacious city in the United States. The winner proved to be the home of Mardi Gras, Bourbon Street, and Jazzfest—as well as a rich volume of American history.

Jacquelyn B. Clarkson, city council member at large, plans to accept the inaugural honor on behalf of the city during an event in New Orleans’ iconic Jackson Square on July 1, in conjunction with the Independence Day holiday. Renowned travel guide author and expert, Pauline Frommer, along with a [yellow tail] wines representative, will be on site at Chartres Mall, in front of St. Louis Cathedral, to present the award.

“It’s exciting that the American people realize New Orleans has not lost its sparkle,” Frommer said. “Although the city has gone through very rough times, the tourist areas are back—and are as exciting and dynamic as ever. It’s great that [yellow tail] is honoring this city for its warm culture and unique history. If there ever were a city that truly sparkles, today and forever, it is New Orleans.”

“We are pleased to name New Orleans as ‘America’s Most Sparkling City,’” said Mark Lyle, vice president of marketing for [yellow tail] wines. “A city with so much determination and hospitality is well-deserving of this title, and we look forward to honoring—and toasting—New Orleans.”

We are definitely on the map! Now lets get our fashion scene up there!

Keep it Chic and Sparkly!
